We are not Christian, but we always read lots of books like this around Christmas, because our girls (then ages 5 & 8) love them. This book was fantastic! We found it to be heartwarming and quite captivating.

We read this one long ago as part of Story of the World and our (then)7 year old loved it. I checked it out again and she wanted to hear it over and over, she says it's a 7 star book out of 5 stars. :)

We were studying ancient Egypt (through Story of the World - another great book) and this was one of the book recommendations. The illustrations are so detailed and fascinating, and the text is poetic. It's a story of a brother and sister who raise a crocodile, become stowaways on a ship, and discover that they are *quite* talented at carving stone and painting in the classic old Egyptian style. An exciting adventure that I have read countless times to the delight of my children in the past 2 weeks.
