The circle of life turns in unexpected ways.Earth Mother awakes with the dawn. As she walks the land, swims the seas, and climbs the mountains, nurturing all of creation, she comes across Man, Frog, and Mosquito. They each give her thanks for nature’s bounty, yet can’t help but give her advice about making their lives better. Everybody’s got an opinion, it seems, and Earth Mother is amused when it becomes clear that the circle of life is not without a healthy dose of cosmic humor.

To say that this particular apple tree is a "giving tree" is an understatement. In Shel Silverstein's popular tale of few words and simple line drawings, a tree starts out as a leafy playground, shade provider, and apple bearer for a rambunctious little boy. Making the boy happy makes the tree happy, but with time it becomes more challenging for the generous tree to meet his needs. When he asks for money, she suggests that he sell her apples. When he asks for a house, she offers her branches for lumber. When the boy is old, too old and sad to play in the tree, he asks the tree for a boat.
Sky Castle (Jody Bergsma Collection) (Jody Bergsma Collection)
Submitted by SarahKate on Sat, 11/10/2007 - 21:12.This is an amazingly illustrated, rhyming book with a powerful message. It is the story of children who use their imaginations to build a majestic castle in the sky, "Let's fill up our castle with all of life's treasure, Like warm hugs and smiles and love beyond measure. Light hearts and laughter will start each new day, To brighten our path and show us the way." Full of fairies, unicorns, and many other colorful creatures, this poetic vision is an inspiration: "Remember, as long as you think and you feel, Imagination and love will make your dreams real."

Submitted by SarahKate on Sat, 11/10/2007 - 14:17.I think this is one of the best tree guide books for children I've ever read. Our guide is a Nome looking man, who was born in the trees. This book is full of fascinating facts that answer questions as an adult I've always wondered about trees. The girls enjoyed it almost as much as I did!

If a tree falls in the forest... someone or something will always be there to hear it. Many, many creatures will feel the effects when their source of sustenance and shelter falls to the earth. So when a man is sent into the Amazon rain forest one day, under instructions to chop down a great kapok tree, many eyes watch him nervously. It's not long before he grows tired, though, and the "heat and hum" of the rain forest lulls him to sleep. One by one, snakes, bees, monkeys, birds, frogs, and even a jaguar emerge from the jungle canopy to plead with the sleeping ax-man to spare their home.
