Baby Island
Submitted by SarahKate on Sat, 11/03/2007 - 21:08.Two girls, ages 12 and 10, end up ship wrecked on a deserted island with 4 babies! Fortunately they adore babies and this is a fun and mostly realistic adventure. It amazes me though, that changing diapers is never mentioned! We just finished reading this book (2nd reading in the past year) and as soon as we finished it our 5 year old said "Let's read it again!" Mind you, it takes a week to read this chapter book.

What Goes Around Comes Around
Submitted by SarahKate on Sun, 11/11/2007 - 22:46.An big hearted Grandmother makes big pots of soup and delivers portions to her hungry friends, for fun. One day her granddaughter accompanies her and is well received… I love the language in the book, I couldn't help going into the accents. All these adults cherish little Isabel and encouraged her to share her own talent – her colorful drawings. She sees that sharing her gifts makes the world a better place. Illustrations are simple (3 color), the story is a long one – 50 pages, the message is outstanding.

To say that this particular apple tree is a "giving tree" is an understatement. In Shel Silverstein's popular tale of few words and simple line drawings, a tree starts out as a leafy playground, shade provider, and apple bearer for a rambunctious little boy. Making the boy happy makes the tree happy, but with time it becomes more challenging for the generous tree to meet his needs. When he asks for money, she suggests that he sell her apples. When he asks for a house, she offers her branches for lumber. When the boy is old, too old and sad to play in the tree, he asks the tree for a boat.
A Fairy Went a-Marketing (Unicorn)
Submitted by SarahKate on Sat, 11/10/2007 - 13:32.We are fairy lovers and this book is fantastic. Short, sweet and so
very beautiful. "A fairy went a -marketing - she bought a winter gown
/ all stitched about with gossamer and lined with thistle down. / she
wore it all the afternoon with prancing and delight, / then gave it
to a little frog to keep him warm at night." Love it and let it go.

In my opinion this is one of the finest collections of fairy tales
I've read. They aren't syrupy and super-positive. They are gentle,
original stories of children overcoming their fears, learning powerful
lessons, and meeting magical spirits. We savor this book and I read
the a story from it every few weeks and it is a real treat the whole
family enjoys.
