This is a heartwarming story of a little girl's wish upon a star that came true. "North Star, star of the sea, I wish for a ship named after me, to sail for a day, alone and free, with someone nice for company." The ship is small and marvelous, with a farm and animals on the poop deck! The good company turns out to be her little brother, who she cares for so lovingly. Magical illustrations.

This is the first book in a series written in the early 1940's that has been loved by generations; in fact my parents read it to me and I loved it. 5 year old Betsy and Tacy begin their sweet friendship in this book. They both have 8 year old sisters, so I thought this book would be perfect for our family, since our girls are those ages, and I was right. I was surprised that our (then) 8 year old loved it so much, it's a favorite of hers as well as our (then) 5 year old, and we are pretty excited to continue with the next book and read the series.

A story of a father who responds with love and understanding to his son who does not with to become a tailor like his father and 2 brothers. There's some geometry and sewing instruction at the end, but we skipped that part, and enjoyed the story over and over.

Two girls, ages 12 and 10, end up ship wrecked on a deserted island with 4 babies! Fortunately they adore babies and this is a fun and mostly realistic adventure. It amazes me though, that changing diapers is never mentioned! We just finished reading this book (2nd reading in the past year) and as soon as we finished it our 5 year old said "Let's read it again!" Mind you, it takes a week to read this chapter book.

An absolute classic!
